The Friendly Society Private Hospital is seeking a highly skilled Medical Officer for our 9 bed CCU/ICU who will interact closely with the consultants and nursing staff in the management of critically ill surgical and medical patients.

Day to day duties for this role will include (but not limited to):

  • Provide overall management of deteriorating patients in the CCU/ICU and other units throughout the hospital
  • Perform necessary procedures on patients, including difficult IV cannulation as required.
  • Attend all rapid response calls and liaise with treating consultants and nursing staff regarding the immediate treatment plans
  • Review, assess and provide treatment options for patients with acute changes in condition and the management of these changes
  • Attend all patient rounds with the consultants and document ongoing management plans in the progress notes
  • Carry out a full clinical admission of all patients admitted to CCU/ICU and any patients admitted to the hospital during the afterhours period

Applicants must be available to work 12.5 hour shifts with 7 days on 7 days off alternate day and night roster periods.  Additional hours may be available to cover leave and during busy periods.

Key Selection Criteria

  1. A medical degree (MBBS or equivalent) and hold General registration with the Medical Board of Australia
  2. Post graduate ICU/CCU experience (mandatory)
  3. Procedural competencies including, but not limited to –Advanced life support, Arterial line insertion (radial, femoral and axillary), Central line insertion (jugular, subclavian and femoral), PICC line insertion, tracheostomy
  4. Knowledge of the pharmacology, physiology, and pathophysiology of critical illnesses and conditions such as renal failure, respiratory failure, cardiac failure, sepsis, and seizures
  5. Thorough understanding of the relevant legislation pertaining to Medical Officers
  6. Skills in the medical assessment and clinical management of patients
  7. High level oral and written communication skills to develop documentation for systems enhancements and training manuals, along with the ability to interact effectively with people
  8. Strong work ethic with the ability to work under pressure, set priorities, plan and organise workloads and investigate and solve problems with minimal supervision and good attention to detail
  9. Ability to work as an effective team member and provide high quality customer service to internal staff, our patients and their families
